I may have had fecal impaction/ constipation these last two days, but now after taking a laxative and some miralax think its softened up. But the problem is, Im afraid to let it out because previous times its been so painful due to the constipation/fecal impaction. What do I do, I have to poop, but I'm afraid to, I've sort of clenched, so only little bits come out but that would take forever. I also took miralax which kicked in yesterday as i was tubing, so i had to hold it in. But now I'm nervous that by holding it in I've made it worse, any advice?
Help, may have fecal impaction?

Hi, Because of the question, I realize the answer is urgent. I just have to say something first because you wouldn't even believe the people who do do this but:NEVER SWALLOW A SUPPOSITORY, EVER there are many people who have tried. That being said if you are able to get to a pharmacy or a market which has a pharmacy inside why don't you ask them where the" laxative suppositories" are? It may sound gross and if you have a few extra $ some people would rather use a surgical glove. (You don't want the glycerine suppositories because that helps things slide out) A laxative suppository has something in it which can sometimes help a anal sphincter relax and I say this because I know it has worked for me. So use the surgical glove, make sure the foil is removed and it can be inserted into the anus a couple of ways. 1. is to put the lid down and lift one foot which can allow one to separate the cheeks and it can be inserted easily. or 2. if already on the john and squatting don't bend over low but instead, sit up very straight and insert it rectally usually as far as one can. Take off the gloves & throw them in the trash and try to walk around allowing it to melt. You may want to see if you can sit on your couch and relax and watch some TV for a while. This helps it to melt more and get into the area that it needs to. (I wouldn't go out for a walk though because you may be a person who responds to it somewhat quickly and you'll need to stay somewhat close to the restroom). It should work within 30 minutes or even half that time or less. When doing what you need to do finally does come and you do have that urge to push try to be sitting up straight as if using your best posture. This helps more of it come out (from experience). Another suggestion may be to bring your laptop with you if you have one because its never a good idea to just push because you don't want to strain anything. Some people have quite a lot and it helps your plumbing also if when some stool drops in the bowl to flush at that time and more drops down to flush again and do it that way until its all eliminated. A computer helps keep you distracted because doing this may be painful, For the future try to eat about two activia yogurts every day on a daily basis. If you are taking a water pill sometimes that can cause constipation but if you are taking something with codeine on a regular basis I would suggest that you always eat an activia with each meal perhaps. Using a laxative suppository each time you have to go isn't a good idea at all because the anus may become addicted to it and then you would need to use one every time. The better way is trying prevent it from happening in the future by eating that on a daily basis and incorporating it into your daily diet. There are a lot of pluses with this too because Activia also tastes good and its really good for you. They have a raspberry flavor and a banana/strawberry that tastes good to. The jury is out on the banana/strawberry drink because I'm currently comparing them myself to see if the drink works better than the yogurt itself so I can't definitely recommend the drink over the yogurt until I figure out the complete difference between them. Some people use something obtained from the pharmacist's refrigerator called Lactinex which is lactobacillus acidophilus and one chews the recommended amount according to the package. However, if taking certain antibiotics and perhaps something else you take you should speak to your pharmacist and definitely always even let your doctor know that you're eating the yogurt. Always ask your doctor if it is OK for you to use anything even if its OTC. OK? I hope this works well for you. I'd like to know if it did. Take care.

ok so I did that, and it came out rather smooth and quickly, but how do I know if i still have impacted stool?
If you're going you're ok. If it had been hard rocks then there might be more, but even that would mean the impaction was breaking up.
She's right. It will hurt but it must come out. You'll know you're better when you're feeling better.
