I did a 7 day suboxone taper myself to get clean after a 5-6 year oxycontin and heroine addiction. I've only been clean and off of the suboxone for 4 days, but for some reason I have no energy at all. You would think my body would feel great after having such a severe addiction, but it doesn't. Any answers as to how long I will feel like this or what I can do to help?

Hey bbb,
The Suboxone is a long acting medication so you won't even feel the effects of withdrawal until 3 to 5 days after your last dose. Seven days is a very short taper. You are going to feel the withdrawals for at least a few weeks if you decide to stay on this course. You may want to return to a low dose of Suboxone and take longer to taper off the medicine. Giving us some more info, like what dose Suboxone you were taking, how low a dose where you taking when you stopped and for how long you were taking it would help us answer the question more clearly.
Best wishes,
Laurie
Hi bbb - Just checking in to see how you are doing. You did an awfully quick subox. withdrawal! Your body WILL feel great after it gets a lot of rest. Remember that its been plundered with the oxys & heroin for 5-6 years. It won't bounce back to normal in a week or two! Exercise helps immensely to motivate those natural endorphins to start firing again... they've been artificially stimulated for so many years that they are going to need a little jump start! What happens when we take heroin/opiates is that we flood the neurons & nerve cell cavities in the brain with artificial endorphins, which are similar in structure to the brains' natural endorphin chemicals, but much more powerful. When this happens, our brains adapt & cease producing any natural endorphins & the brain circuitry may even be altered either temporarily or permanently. When the drugs are stopped, the brain begins production of endorphins again. So, anything like exercise, will help the brain along in producing these endorphins... also helps to eat well, and all the things we heard growing up! Be good to your body and your mind... its all we have! Good luck!
