When my Dr. looked for an anxiety script for me. It seemed that Tramadol was the issue in his prescribing one. As of yet it has not been done. Would it be better to be off one to get the other. I have severe pain and nerve damage causing chronic pain. I just had a long 15 + years of opioid use that I took myself away from. Not easy. Thank God I found a DR. who would prescribe Tramadol with surprise that I was not seeking the other. What is out there to deal with both?
I have had experience that tradol is difficult to match with anti-depressants. Is this an issue?

The issue is that when you mix the two you have a chance of serotonin syndrome, but serotonin syndrome is rare, and its only a slim chance. As long as you know it could do it and know the symptoms you are pretty safe. Many of us take both antidepressants and tramadol with out a problem. I take effexor and tramadol, 150 of the effexor and 400 mg of tramadol a day, for more then 10 yrs with no trouble.
Hi, the first thing that comes to mind is that your doctor prescribed Tramadol... Knowing your history of opiate use, it isn't generally a good idea, as Tramadol can be habit forming, and you could find yourself swapping one thing for another... However, many people take it without problems... One medication that comes to mind that could be suitable is Pregabalin. It is used for anxiety, pain, as a seizure medication, and other uses. I have been taking it for about a year now and find it really helpful. Maybe something to ask your doctor about?
I have been on all different kinds of chronic pain meds off and on since fusion surgery since 2001. Was on depression meds also I have found that the depression meds do nothing for me but make me hyper. So I would say it's the lesser of 2 evils. I was off everything for quite a few years, buy recently had to go back on pain med just can't function with the pain!
Hello isitreal; I understand that you are grateful to be off opiates. Yet, in my
short experience with Tramadol it gave me an extreme interaction with
the anti-depressant--citalopram. I felt like I was having a nervous breakdown.
I also went on a Rage at the shrink who let me mix them! I fired him, and
also was pissed at my pharmacist... It was bad, I really showed out..Please
be very careful with Tramadol. This is just my feelings. Good Luck To You.
Sincerely, D-Squared* Everybody's differant...
I have taken tramadol for the last 10 years first with Cipralex which I discovered it was Cipralex that was the problem and got off of that after a few years and went on to Wellbutrin and continue to take the tramadol. I have found that they're fine together for the most part. I might avoid taking the tramadol and the antidepressant at the exact same time but staggering them I have had no ill effects. Taken together at the same time seem to cause anxiety in me.
