I don't get much asthma relief from inhaled steroids or even prednisone but Singulair was like a miracle drug. After a few days I stopped waking up at night and was off albuteral almost entirely. Because of potential side effects I tapered off of Singulair. Then I got an upper respiratory infection last November. I was put on Qvar, generic montelukast and eventually prednisone without any real relief. My insurance company won't allow me to go back and try Singulair. I would like to understand the difference between the generic and brand name version so that I can make the argument to at least try the medicine that work so well for me. Thanks.
