Have any of you taken clomipramine? How was your experience? Side effects? How long did it take to help with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, OCD?
I hope you find someone on this site that has taken or is currently on Clomipramine.
It is not prescribed that often. It is an older tricyclic antidepressant and has more side effects than the newer antidepressants.
It is usually prescribed if you do not tolerate SSNIs or SNRIs very well, and or the atypical antidepressants. Usually the first line of defense is Celexa or Lexapro.
Best to talk to your doctor about your options.
I found that the side effects that I got first, were a sensation like something was always stuck in my throat left after about 3 - 4 weeks but the sleepiness caused has been and continues to be an issue, so it has to be morning only for me. It may have had some minor effects on the time I spend anxious so rather than be in a state of continuous anxiety I tend to have quite rapidly debilitating anxiety attacks, no effect whatsoever on depression except maybe a worsening of symptoms and a dose higher than I can tolerate is great for my brand of OCD (I still have trouble touching or being touched by most people).
I have been on Clomipramine for a year now. Side effects include very dry mouth and constipation. I take 300mg for pure O (no compulsions). I tried Prozac for 3 months and it didn't do a single thing for me. Started on this at 200mg and within a few DAYS I could tell it was working. My ocd was very bad - it was to the point where I was losing touch with reality. I just deal with the side effects because nothing helped me like this. It's an older drug, so you may have to ask for it. It has taken at least 90% away for me. I can mange and cope with the rest.
