Does anybody else also deal with recall, memory issues? I want to return to graduate school to finish my degree, but have mixed feelings due to the drug’s sporadic interference with my cognitive abilities.
I do, quite a bit. I was on 125 mcgs of the Fentanyl patch and tried 2 times to get off it but couldn't - the pain was too bad. Then I switched to Methadone (for pain) and gradually worked my way down from 90 mgs to 20 - but the pain was too bad. Much better cognitive abilities though! Now I'm back on the Fentanyl patch at 50 mcgs and can't even balance my checkbook. It's like a gray blanket over my brain. There's also documentstion about brain shrinkage in chronic pain patients - google Dr Forrest Tennant. He has a lot if good info about intractable pain. In my case, it's been 16 years on opiates and I'd say I have about 50% loss in cognitive function. Regards - ElizaJane
