... anyone know if body fluids such as urine contain active or inactive metabolites ? Taking hydroxyurea to treat thrombocythemia.
I was on the hydroxyurea for many years to control my PV, I did not allow any other member in my family to touch the bottle or capsules. Better to error on the side of caution. I was informed by my doctor that the medacine is active in bodily fluids so while we were concerned on starting a family I needed to go off the meds for several months.
If you are getting the pill yourself you don't have to use gloves, but anyone else that is handling it should. Are you asking about the metabolites because of possible problems if others come in contact with your secretions? Your pharmacist should be able to answer those questions for you. It excreted by the kidneys, so I'd assume its in the urine, but I have nothing to back that or to know if they are active or inactive.
