Asking to be pain free is unfortunately a little optimistic. When you've done that kind of damage, and have arthritis, you really can't expect to be pain free. You can expect to have less pain, maybe even substantially less pain. But I doubt you will accomplish totally pain free. If that's what your dr told you than you really should consider getting another dr. Knees take quite a while to heal. Do the exercises you were taught in pt religiously. That will help the most.
