... recollection it was the 5th incident, starting at bleeding ulcers about 10 years ago... they have not stopped drinking and it has been progressively more and larger alcohol content. 2 nights ago they threw up a significant, very significant amount of blood. (6th incident) Yesterday they stayed in laying down and sleeping all day. very little food, crunching ice and drinking ice water (19 degree day). they refuse to go to the hospital or call a doctor. Today they went back to work for a short shift. Color is pale, attitude is - oh i am much better... Talk to me. what are your thoughts? timeline for another significant episode? We understand and have been down the counseling road to no avail. I am talking straight medical
Prognosis-If he keeps drinking and bleeding, with no medical treatment, its not going to be long before he bleeds to death. He knows the dr will tell him to stop drinking immediately. There comes a time when the drs just can't do anymore because the patient won't cooperate. I've seen the above scene. Its not pretty for the family to watch. And they beg you to help him and there is nothing you can do. The patient chose that by refusing to stop drinking.
