Epidiolex (cannabidiol) is the first FDA-approved drug that contains a purified drug substance derived from marijuana known as cannabidiol (CBD). However, unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the psychoactive component of marijuana, CBD does not cause intoxication or a 'high'. The FDA approved Epidiolex in June 2018 as an oral solution for patients two years and older to treat seizures linked with two rare and severe forms of epilepsy that start in childhood, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome.
