I recently had an endoscopy which amongst inflammation stomach polyps where discovered. The doctor said I had about six. I had biopsies taken and am awaiting results. what concerns me is that the doctor said I had had them a long time. I don't know if that's good news or bad in terms of if I've had them a long time they haven't turned cancerous so there okay?? or because I've had them a long time they have had time to become cancerous or malignant? sorry to ramble just concerned.
Most stomach polyps are noncancerous, but some types may eventually develop into stomach cancer. A biopsy is generally ordered. I believe your Dr. was referring to your having had the polyps a long time which gave them more of a chance to develop into cancerous polyps. More significant than age is large size and cell dysplasia (unusual cell shape and size and other characteristics). Keep in mind most aren't cancerous.
