My ALT level increased from 13 to 53 in one year and only change was adding Elmiron. Can the medication elevate ALT levels?
One of the possible side effects of Elmiron is high liver enzymes. Elmiron is affecting me with high liver enzymes. My doctor has reduced me to 2 capsules a day rather than three. I do not know if this is correcting the high liver enzymes, yet, but I do know I am having flares as a result of lowering my dosage to 2 a day. I have had all kinds of liver tests and everything is normal except for the high liver enzymes. I stopped Elmiron for 6 weeks and my liver enymes were totally normal. However, I was back to all of the symptoms of Interstitial Cystitis, pain, frequency, urgency. It could be there is not enough build up of Elmiron in my bladder to relieve the symptoms since starting back on it. I can skip Elmiron for one day prior to a liver test and the results will be normal. If I take Elmiron the day of the test, the results will be high. No one has given me an alternative treatment to Elmiron. I have been taking it for 15 years with excellent results other than the liver enzymes. Hope you find your answers.
