... able to leave my house. How long do I wait til I call my doctor?
I was Ok on Effexor but like you are now when I took Prozac. I think it is just that some anti depressants suit some people and not others. I know we feel worse before we feel better when we first start taking an anti depressant, but my opinion is that if it is making your really ill, then it is not right for you. After 2 weeks my personal feeling is that Effexor is giving you bad side effects. If you are unable to leave your house, then that is all wrong.
Phone the doctor now.
Don't wait. You need to call your prescriber as soon as possible and tell him/her what is going on. Effexor, like other antidepressants, work differently for different people. It sounds like it may be having a paradoxical effect on you (meaning, what the drug is meant to alleviate is actually being heightened) and that is not good. Some antidepressants can actually make you more anxious. If you decide to stick it out a little longer just to give the Effexor XR a chance to work, please pay attention to your body if things start getting worse; especially if you start feeling suicidal or having thoughts of suicide... it can happen and trust me, it is pretty scary and nerve-wracking. Good luck.
