I'm 22 male. I've had panic attacks, social anxiety, obsess over intrusive thoughts, MANY irrational fears that keep me from achieving my goals. Having these conditions I am having trouble getting myself to start this medication.. I've never taken anything for this. Any thoughts? (Also I would like to gain wait!)
Well you will certainly gain weight!! I have found that Effexor took away depression, anxiety and panic attacks. But different medications work differently for some people. What works for one, may not work for another.
As your doctor has prescribed Effexor, I presume they believe it will help your problems. Give it a try. It will take a few weeks to work, and sometimes things may get worse before they get better. You have to give it time to work for you.
Effexor is difficult to withdraw from, so be sure you want to start on it. But I believe it is better to be on medication that helps, then suffer as you are doing. You obviously went to your doctor for help, and you thought he/she would prescribe medication I presume. I think you will find that in a few weeks, after taking Effexor, you will feel much better. I do hope so.

Do not be afraid of taking the effexor. I have been on 150 mil for 12 years and it changed my life. I had anxiety so bad I could not leave the house.
Hey y'all, so I ended up trying brintellix. I'm pretty sure it's working. There's a subtle difference in how much I am overcome with distressing thoughts- as in it's less now. The big thing is that I don't have the fear of medication now. (As wierd as it may seem... Anxiety is a funny thing) I wouldn't say my life is totally changed, but the 5mg of brintellix is helping, perhaps my psychiatrist will up the dose eventually. Thanks for your support. It takes strength to both give and seek it.
