I am 52 year old woman going through menopause and was prescribed this for hot flashes?
Hi, Joyce! Yes, it can be prescribed for this reason.
"A study has found that the antidepressant Effexor (chemical name: venlafaxine) eased hot flashes just as well as hormone replacement therapy (HRT)."
Sorry we can't post links on this site, but you can Google "Effexor and menopause symptoms" for much more information.
Best regards, Wildcat
I was just prescribed Effexor for re-emerging panic attacks \ anxiety that reared its ugly head due to peri-menopausal symptoms. Hot flashes were also an issues. The first night my hot flashes went from 1 every minute - which seemed to last all night long... to... only waking up 4 or 5 times a night. I am only on dose 3 today and have other questions, but I can safely say it has helped my hot flashes in just the first day or so.
