... on Effexor for quite sometime now, I take wellbutrin with it. This really does not get me over the depression, I've have tried Abilify as well. I just wondered about other combinations that may be out there that have been successful. I realize everyone reacts differently, but I am at wits end and feeling that I will never get this under control:^( any suggestions?
I promise you will get your depression under control. Don't give up! It took several tries to find the right combination for me. I have been on an older tricyclic antidepressant called imipramine for years. Also, I am on lithium. If your medications aren't working, you need to talk to your doctor. You may want to suggest that he put you on imipramine. This is considered a tricyclic antidepressant. One of the best tricyclics! If Wellbutrin and Effexor isnt helping, then the SSRI anitdepressants may not be working for you. There are so many options that can work! Also, I take magnesium supplements. This can help with depression and anxiety. Women can take about 250 to 300 milligrams a day. Cut the tablet in half and take half in the morning and half at bedtime. Magnesium will give you a calming effect and help you sleep. I hope you get to feeling better soon! I promise you will!
I also am on bupropion and Effexor and feel terrible. I can't sleep (bupropion) and feel light headed and want off both. I have been on Effexor for years and just started the bupropion a little over a month ago. Good luck.
I've never heard of a Case Manager prescribing drugs. That sounds ridiculous. Only a doctor or the highest raking nurse with a doctor's permission can prescribe medications. And only a certified nurse or higher raking can give sound advise n insight on medications n have the knowledge of what (meds) might or might not work. Plus knowing that each patient is different! I think this Case Worker or workers need a reality check! I've taken Effexor with Wellbutrin but didn't stay on Wellbutrin long. I've also taken Effexor with Doxepin n now I'm taking Doxepin with Prozac. "Trial & Error" it's not fun! And now with the antidepressant I'm also taking Klonupin/Clonazepam.I was taking Xanax n had been taking it for years, I had to stop. It was causing serious breathing problems. I haven't been on this new Combo very long, but so far so good. As you know, ITS DIFFERENT FOR EACH OF US. Please keep Us updated? Good luck :)
I would suggest an appointment with your psychiatrist and be sure to make a list of meds you have tried (for a period of at least 6-8 weeks). He will probably have a record if you forget any. You can determine what has or hasn't worked for you and you can proceed from there. There are meds out there that work but not overnight. After years of trying I finally have found Effexor and Lamictal to work for me. I have my life back, nothing is perfect, you have to work at it. I also see a therapist who has helped me more than I can say. Get out, exercise, walk. My best to you there is a light at the end of the tunnel (even when you can't see the tunnel).
I have been taking Effexor XR for 7 years now at the maximum dose (300mg). It was amazing at first but over the last 2 years it has slowly become less effective at controlling my depression. I asked my dr about adding something else and at first we tried Dexedrine but that just made my anxiety worse. But then we tried cytomel, which is a medication to control hypothyroidism, and that has helped a lot. I have more energy during the day and I find i am more optimistic about life in general which makes me less depressed.
Also, I take vitamin D everyday, even in the summer. I highly recommend this to anyone with depression. It’s made a huge difference in my life.
