I was on Zoloft and Lexapro; they both worked for a time, but then lost efficacy. I am now being put on Effexor XR. How long does it take to kick in when cross tapering. Has anyone been on it a long time? I am so worried that this will either not work and will lose its efficacy; they what else will be left.
I wish Drs wouldn't do this, the overlap makes it very hard to distinguish what is the old, what is the overlap and what is the new. If you had been gradually taken all the way off your current medication over 2-3 weeks (or more depending on the dosage and how long you were on it) you would know within 2-3 weeks how the new med is working for you.
So, it can and will work if it's right for you, just going to take a little longer before you really know.
I agree with what has already been said. I had to come off Prozac for almost two weeks before my pdoc gave me Effexor and she went up very slowly. I'm now into my 5th week at this dose and it is helping with depression and anxiety, though I also take Klonopin .75 mg at night too. Give Effexor at least 6 weeks at a dose if you can. Most pdoc a try and get you up to 150mg within 2 weeks and then leave it there for 4-8 weeks to see how you're doing. I've gotten really good advice from Balbanese in this site so you have support here.
