I feel so anxious and depressed, having nightmares, ramped up anxiety and need xanax to relieve the anxiety ... MD doesn't want to deal with my changing meds and I'm starting anew soon with another psychopharmacologist. What can relieve these symptoms and has anyone been successful with going off of Effexor? Have read terrible posts from folks who had a miserable time of it and weren't able to do so. Effexor has affected my memory and eyesight as well .. a bad drug all in all.
Beadsknees. I was on Prozac for 15 years and it stopped workimg. I was put on Celexa and starting doing better soon.
It isn't unusual to develop a "tolerance" after 15 years. You may just need an adjustment in dosage. Weaning from Efffexor needs to be done very slowly over much time to avoid too much discomfort.
Beadsknees, I can relate, I was on Lexapro and it worked wonders for many years and it seemed that the doctors were actually surprised I used the dose I did for so long and it remained affective.
I know with any medication for depression it cannot be stopped abruptly without a doctors advice. I think Effexor sounds like it served it's purpose for a time and now it is time to explore other options, I take Wellbutrin now but if you are like me and suffer with anxiety also then Wellbutrin has to be monitored closely because it can give you "energy" and actually cause anxiety if the dosage is to high. I hope your doctor helps you and your depression let's up and you can sleep peacefully.
