need information on dosages i can take or not take while driving heavey equipment in the construction business. this is my lifes work but do to severe back problems 2 surgerys can I still perform work if on the methadone prescribed?
Everyone's different, and I think that for most people (not all) that what ever the dose may be that you need, you'll adjust to it, and will be fine after the first couple of days. I'd talk to your doctor about it, but really, this is true with most medications, especially true with the opioids. I really don't think that there's any magic number with methadone, and you also have to remember, it's a medication that many people use to maintain normal lives (also used for addicts). While it does have a side effect profile (slows your breathing down, and for me, that's the biggest one), it is also known to be a medication that helps people maintain a regular life, such as driving and working. I take only 30mg per day for chronic pain, and haven't had to deal with getting a tolerance to it either, which is very common with the other opioids. I personally don't feel out of it or anything since I've been on it, and is the reason why I'm discontinuing all of the other pain meds that I'm currently on, and am going to adjust the methadone accordingly. All in all, It's been a great med for me - just have to be careful, and make sure to get a cardiograph to ensure that you won't have any heart problems while on the medication.
hope that this helps!
