I just tested positive for Chlamydia on February 9th, 2016. I just took 1 gram (4- 250 mg pills) of Zythromax in one dose, all pills at once. My boyfriend took 1 gram (4- 250 mg pills) of Azythromycin in one dose, all at once. We both took these on February 9th as well. My question is how effective will both of us be treated with these antibiotics? How long should we wait to have sex? When is the earliest I could get retested?
Chlamydia is a bacterial infection most often spread through sexual contact. Chlamydia is treated with oral antibiotics including azithromycin (Zithromax) 1 gram as a single oral dose.
Antibiotic treatment almost always works if you and your partner take the medicines as directed.
In most cases, the infection resolves within one to two weeks. CDC recommends that you should abstain from sexual activity for 7 days after single dose antibiotics.
A follow-up evaluation can be done in 3 to 4 weeks to see if the infection has been cured.
