I've been with depression for the last 20 years Started out with trazadon, clonazapran, and buspirone And 3 years ago everything stopped working, and the doctor tried drugs after drugs , they only worked for 2 to 4 weeks then had to lift dosage to the max. As of right now i'am on amitriptyline , buspirone, clonazapran, lamotrigine, Ritlan, mirtazapine, quetiapine, and venlafaxine. Now he put me on abilify 5 mg and I hope I hope this does the job. Has anyone got an answer for me.
I've been on many antidepressants, SSRI, SNRI, etc. Abilify is an add-on medication to your antidepressant. It's not meant to work alone. I take Wellbutrin and Lexapro, both of which do very little. I remained depressed for 3 months. Then my pdoc put me on 5 mg Abilify once per day. On day 6, it was as if someone had flipped a switch. No more depression. And I actually had energy for the first time in quite a while. I find it helps with weight loss; I feel full most of the time. I was on Abilify 10 mg about 6 months ago, but it caused my blood glucose and A1C to rise to diabetic levels. When I quit the Abilify, my blood glucose and A1C went back to normal. But my pdoc took me off the Abilify because of this. Since we had so much trouble finding an antidepressant that works, he suggested going back on the Abilify, but at half dose to avoid messing with my blood glucose. So far so good. Abilify was the only thing to work for me.
I wish you the best and hope you find the right meds to help you.
