Many of the reviews here state how effective gabapentin is for Restless Leg Syndrome. My problem is not only RLS, but chronic insomnia as well. Does gabapentin help at all with insomnia as separate from RLS?
It makes you drowsy the first few days, then it doesn't anymore.
You might want to talk with your doctor about doing a sleep study. I believe your issues with insomnia are better addressed by a doctor specializing in that area. I also think they are best qualified to recommend sleep aids.
I'm an insomniac as well, I'd have to say that gabapentin hasn't affected my sleep much. If anything it turns the volume down on my pain, so sleep is a tiny bit easier.
If you don't find that gab helps you sleep, talk to your doc about one of the hypnotic meds, like Ambien, it does work.
Best wishes to you,
Dear Nitephall, I take 1 gabapentin 300mg a nite for insomnia related pain issues. It really works well! My boyfriend recently got put on Ambien (lol)
for his insomnia and it works very well for him..A little worrisome for me,
'cuz he has done a little shaky sleepwalking. But it is his first week taking
it. I hope this information heped you. Getting a good nite's sleep, sure makes
the next day rosier! Sleep Tight, ~~DD~~
Hi Nite! I recently stopped taking 2400 mg of Gabapentin. It sure helped me sleep, but it was prescribed for pain. Now I take Zyprexa 5 mg. Also, Trazadone helps. Of course there's a ton of sleep aids. Is it helping you? If so, that's what matters. Let me know, ok?
