So the past few days I've been in pain because of my ear. The first day I just noticed that my ear was sore when it started hurting and didn't think much of it. I thought maybe I slept on it wrong. And then the next day my ear gradually started hurting more and was swelling and the opening to my ear was almost swollen shut and by the end of the day I was in a lot of pain and was up most of the night because of it. So I decided to go to the doctor and he took a look in my ear and agreed that is was swollen and he said he couldn't see my eardrum because there was puss in front of it. He diagnosed me with Otis externa (swimmer's ear) and prescribed me some ear drops (neomycin-polymyxin) and I've been taking them as prescribed for a little less than 24 hrs but I haven't noticed my ear feeling any better. I was up most of the night again last night because the pain was so bad. And this morning when I woke up my ear was like completely swollen shut and the outside of my ear looked like it had some dried yellow puss on it? I don't know if I really have an ear infection because I wouldn't think I would be in this much pain. I called the doctor I saw yesterday to see if he could refer me to an ear doctor so I could see what his diagnosis would be. If anyone has any opinions that would be really helpful thank you.
Belize; Yes you do without a drought, Anyone can get an ear infection at any age. At least finish the ear drops the doctor gave you yesterday and if it does not clear up go see a specialist if that is what you need to do. But waiting all these days for ear pain it would not be this bad had you had it checked a day or two ago. And the ear drop the other doctor gave you is one very effective medication. But just like the ear infection coming on slow, It also goes away slowly. keep using the ear drops.
I agree with the diagnosis but it just means the external ear is inflamed.
It may be an allergy or a bite.
The important thing is the medication.
Within 2-3 days you should see a result. He needs to get in there to actually see the eardrum to determine the diagnosis.
Did you have a small pimple inside?
Do you remember getting bitten?
I would go to a specialist if it's getting worse instead of better.
