Has this drug been reported for balance problems resulting in falls in the elderly?

There is evidence that metformin isn't cleared out of the body as fast and there for can be built up, lowering the blood sugar. There should be close monitoring of blood sugar and kidney function. A low blood sugar can of course lead to dizziness and falling.
