My brother fell and has bruising to his brain stem. He is inpatient. Hospital wants to send him four hours away from home because he is aggressive and would need contstant care because of aggression. He is bipolar they will not let him take oral. food/drink going into lungs. I say he is aggressive because after 10 years of medications he has not had medication for 14 days. They indicated there was no other option. he has to go without and the aggression is related to brain. I disagree. I work in medical insurance and remember Lilly as a compay my prevous job used to get their drugs from.
Well now that they've endangered him by not giving his meds for 2 weeks, what's their next act? If he truly can't swallow, they need to put a tube in so they can give nutrition and meds. They can't keep him on ivs forever. Without protein his skin will break down and he will suffer malnutrition. They can either put an n/g tube in, that would be without surgical intervention. Or a peg tube, that uses surgery with a scope. Both can be discontinued when appropriate. There are some medications that can be given by im too.
