Your doc is right not to increase your diazepam. Btw, that is Valium I hope you know. It is addictive or at the very least causes physical dependency. If you've been taking it 8 years you're definitely dependent on it. You also can't just stop taking any Benzo. You must be slowly weaned off. But I'm afraid I have more bad news. There was a time I always wanted Valium because I do have an anxiety problem. I still use a Benzo from time to time, but I would no longer touch Valium with a 10' pole. Why? For 1 BIG reason. Valium causes depression. It's one of the side effects. Doc's were refusing to give it to me for years because they said it caused depression and would make mine worse. However, I did have excess anxiety and kept insisting until I got some. Between my anxiety and depression I never used to notice the Valium making it worse. But the last time I had a script for Valium I did notice it made my depression much worse. That was over 12 years ago, and that was the last time I ever took Valium. So the doc's were right all along. I now use Ativan, Xanax or Klonopin for anxiety and to help me sleep. I never use Valium anymore. I submit to you that so long as you're going to take Valium daily, your depression is never going to improve. I'm telling you Bill I just refused to believe this for more years than I know. But once I felt the depression get worse, I stopped taking Valium. I was better off. I think you should talk to your docs about this. Have them switch you to Xanax or Ativan. You really need to break the physical dependency on Valium anyway.
