I am 75 years old the doctor prescribed Zoloft for me as some nights I am having sleep difficulty from depression, I start thinking too much before sleep and get afraid from not been able to sleep. I used it before and every thing got well. Now I just want to know drinking alcohol in moderation will affect the medicine.
Hi, George! This is copied from the Drugs.Com Interactions Checker:
*You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with sertraline. Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of sertraline such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.*
It would seem a cup or two a day might be acceptable for some people. Of course,it also depends on the type of alcohol you're consuming and the size of the cup.
George; you already have good answers; Just want to say that most doctors would say as long as you keep the alcohol 2 to 3 hours away from the Zoloft, but also be aware you may first start you Zoloft and get used to it prior to a couple of drinks in the evening. And it can make some of the side effects for some people more common but you won't know until you try it. But I do know many that enjoy an evening drink or two at night and are taking one of these type meds and have no problems just figure it out that you have at least a couple hours away from the time you take your Zoloft. IF in doubt talk to your doctor about it. Chuck1957; cheers
