I took 20mg of Arava for two months. I stopped this medication a week ago however I am aware that the half life of Leflunomide is 14 - 18 days. Please advise whether I can drink alcohol now that I am no longer taking these tablets or do I need to wait? If I do need to wait, any idea how long for?
After you stop taking Arava, you may need to be treated with other medicines to help your body eliminate leflunomide quickly. If you do not undergo this drug elimination procedure, leflunomide could stay in your body for up to 2 years. Follow your doctor's instructions.
My doctor informed me that the 'wash out' procedure was only prescribed for people who became pregnant whilst taking this medication or intended to try for a baby. They refused my request for help in eliminating Leflunomide as they did not see it as necessary.
