I've been depressed for many years, I'm scared to take it, I know it would help but I can't bring myself to take it... any suggestions?
The best suggestion is to address this concern with the Dr., because the events leading up to the prescription (diagnosis) are known to the Dr alone (and you of course). Confidence (or lack of) in the Dr can contribute greatly to your condition, and it is not uncommon for folks to have this fear/hesitation/uncertainty, however, the Internet is not the source if you're seeking solace, in act, the massive variance in opinions will make you feel even more uncertain, and worse overall. Addressing this directly with the physician will eliminate all that, and also ensure future care is refined, your confidence in that care increased, and your medical history (of which this concern will become a part of) being accurate.
What balbanese said. Your doctor has prescribed it for good reason. I hope you haven't confined your reading to this site as it tends to attract people who are having issues with a medication. Not many swoop in a said this product is the ducks guts when it comes to issues. Try to remeber that for every bad story there are many happy ones.
Good luck; take the pill...
Hi, i was prescribed Citalopram some years ago now. I was also apprehensive about starting it, but i knew i had to do something to change the way i felt. I was very depressed, crying all of the time, not getting out of bed, everything seemed hopeless. It is important to know that SSRI's (which is what Citalopram is) can/will make you feel worse before you feel better, it is just the way they work. The first 3 weeks i was taking Citalopram i felt pretty rough, but then my doctor increased my dose at the 3 week stage and i felt almost immediately better. In my mind, 3 weeks more of feeling as i already was, was nothing compared to the 4 years of stability i have experienced since. I would always suggest giving this medication a chance, it could change your life for the better.
