We have been using opiutes since the 1800' s. What conserns me is the dependance your body needs over a short amount of time. Then after you are addicted, when you quit the withdraw is misery and sheer agony. I believe opiutes are the worst drug to withdraw from, even harder than street drugs I'm told. Is there other pain medicines that will take away moderate pain that is not an opiute? And I wonder why Dr.'s give them out like candy?
Not all doctors give them out like candy Its quite the opposite now. They are cracking down. Also, Opiates are wonderful drugs for pain control. If you are in real horrible pain(especially chronic) they are life savers. If you take them as prescribed by the Dr, take to relieve pain and not for "euphoric effects) and taper down when you are ready to stop then there should be little problem. I have gone through full on withdrawal off of 20mg oxy for 2.5yrs for a week and a half when i got mad at Dr(im hardheaded lol) it was horrible. The shock of not being use to pain and aches made it seem worse but after i got back on them i thought it was all worth it. I remembered back to the pain and horrible useless feeling depressing life before i was on opiates. I tried other options. Only w/ 9 diff meds did i feel only half as good as i do w/ opiates. If i had to, would go through withdrawal once a month to have the remaining days liveable w/ way less pain. If someone doesnt understand that, then maybe opiates are not they way to go and what you said is true.
Really? Are you serious? Dont take them if your to weak for the withdraws. And drs dont give them out like candy. Good dsr give ppl the benefit of the doubt and try to belive people when they have a pain. Then you have drug seekers coming in and saying they are pissing blood or some off the wall crap. And messing it up for people who really need the drug and to answer your ? Yes they have other drugs that are not opit. Like naproxan, trodol, tramadol. Theres alot too many to type
Have you ever been in pain so bad and for so long that it hinders your quality of life? Or should we all just 'suck it up Sally' and take an aspirin?
I pray you never get a disease that ruins your life and causes horrible ongoing crushing pain, so bad that you can barely get out of bed, nor make dinner for your family, nor go to work at a job you love. I pray you never have to feel that type of pain.
But if you do, remember this, your question here.
The spelling is 'opiate' not opiute, and you work with addicts? You can't even spell the word properly!
Yes! I agree with you. I had a major surgery in November 2011 and introduced to this medicine. I am still in pain and no other pain meds agree untill I take at least 5 mg of this stuff. I too feel very worried if I am getting hooked into this stuff. I will slowly give it up, however, what I learn from these correspondences its harder that the street drugs.
