Dentist prescribed me 1000mg of Valtrex after cold sore began forming on my lip today (small blisters appeared this morning.) I know this is best taken prior to symptoms showing, but this formed while I slept.
Anway, it was prescribed with the instructions to take once a day, however, I am reading that many people take 2000 mg doses twice a day for the first day for maximum effectiveness. Can I double my next dosage, or should I stick to one pill a day? Hoping to speed up healing time as much as possible. TY!

If the outbreak is caught on time, meaning you start valacyclovir (valtrex) right away there is no need to double up, just take what you prescribed and follow full course of treatment.
