Doctor told me that the Synthroid he gave me was the equivalent of the 4 grains of Armour I had been taking. Switching to Synthroid was the difference of night and day! Had been taking that dosage for years and doing wonderfully well! New doctor started lowering my dosage. No explanation, just "This is how we treat this Now!" Have developed confusion and amnesia, and she continues to lower my dosage even further. I do not remember what dosage I had been taking before her changes.
Hi, ~4 grains (260mg) of Armour thyroid is about twice the recommended maintenance dose (120mg) so I understand why your doctor is winding you back. The equivalent dose in Synthroid would be also twice the recommended daily regular dose and well above the maximum dose that most people respond to: "Doses greater than 200 mcg per day are seldom required. An inadequate response to daily doses of greater than 300 mcg per day is rare and may indicate poor compliance, malabsorption, drug interactions, or a combination of these factors." Source FDA/Drugs.com
Maybe you need to talk to your doctor and look at other medications you are taking to look for potential interactions and/or possible malabsorption issues. Sorry that this is not more helpful to you.
I wish you the best in finding a solution.
