My son-in-law has bronchitis and has been prescribed prednisone in daily decreasing doses of 3 tabs for 3 days, 2 tabs for 3 days and then 1 tab for 3 days. My question is, are the pills to be taken all at once each day or spread out?
It would be best to divide the Pred into 3 doses, morning, noon and night. When you come off of it slowly it works best divided up. One huge does of Pred is great but then what? Pred stays in the human body for sometime. Check the half live of what you are taking. It looks like the Dr. Is doing it correctly.
For maximum effect the pills should be taken all at once at the same time every day preferably in the morning as they may keep you from sleeping good due to adrenal affects. This is how it has always been prescribed to me by my PC and Pulmonary doctors as well as when I was given it in the hospital. Also, take with food as it may be hard on your stomach. As your doses decrease you will be able to cough up more of the congestion. Good luck!
