Everytime I get in the car I start to feel anxiety. My husband always drive because it has gotten so bad that I cant even get on the expressway. My doctor prescribed but I have not taken it should i?
Yes, xanax will work fairly quickly after you take it. It will help the anxiety and make functioning a bit easier. Just be aware that it is likely your body will become dependent on it so take only as prescribed and if you decide to stop taking it you must taper off slowly, not stop abruptly. You want to see how your body responds to the medication before attempting to drive or do other such activities.
Xaqnax is an extremely effective medication that is most often used for situations that are identified as anxiety prone. It is therefore a short and quick acting, perfect for the situation that you have described.
If it is used on a continuous manner, it will create a discontinuation syndrome if stopped suddenly, but if it is tapered very slowly, use of the med can be stopped. I personally have non situational panic and general anxiety, so I take Klonopin, a around the clock long acting version of the drug (all benzos act more or less the same outside of their strength and duration).
I personally find benzos to be the most effective med for anxiety, although they only hide symptoms, so if you do stop the med, your basically back at square one.
Hope that this is of some help to you!
