Hello rosemia7. Yes, valium (diazepam) comes from the benzodiazepine family of drugs. There are side-effects to it. One of them is sleepiness. most people take anywhere from 5 to 15mg a day. Usually one in the morning, then say noon, then early evening. That way its spread throughout your day. you can feel it working very quickly, within an hour. I was on it years ago. The problem with this type of drug is its highly addictive nature. And the higher the dose, when its time to cut back, or stop, the more difficult it is to do so. Many people are very content, and happy to take it. Its an older drug I'd say close to 45 years or so, maybe 50 since it came on the market. Very best wishes to you.
