my gp has prescribed this drug to see if it will help me to sleep i have not had more than 3 hours a night for 20 months, since my mum passed away,i work shifts and drive most of my working day,am worried about driving and being doped during working hours.
Hi M4rie1, I am so sorry about the loss of your Mum.
Nortriptyline is an anti-depressant, it is a serotonin, norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, or an SNRI. If you google SNRI's you will learn how they work.
If memory serves, this med can make one crave sugar and carbohydrates, so watch your diet!
If you are NOT depressed, perhaps you should talk to your doctor/chemist and take a sleep aid? Just an idea.
I hope you are feeling better soon! Please post again and let us know how you are doing. We care.
hi,m4rie1.first let me tell you how sorry i am for your loss.loosing a loved member of your family is imposible to relate to unless you suffer the same loss.the drug you have been perscribed is very similar to the one i take.these drugs now a days are used for more than just 1 problem.the 1 your doctor prescribed is used for depression, pain and sleep.but it will not make you drowsy in the morning.but will improve your appetite.so please be aware of this.good luck with your sleep... pete
