I am on suboxone and am currently looking for a job, I saw some comments about this showing up on backround checks when I was trying to find out about the pre-employment drug screens. Is this true? Some people were saying it's legal, what does it matter but an employer faced with hiring someone without a history of drug abuse and one with a history, it's pretty obvious what they would do unless they were recovering addicts themselves.
Taking Suboxone will not effect your chances of getting a new job. There is no database where an employer can look to see if you have abused drugs in the past UNLESS you have a criminal background. If you've never been to court for your drug problem you have nothing to worry about. Most drug test don't search for the Buprenorphine that's in Suboxone so you shouldn't worry about that. If they do search for the drug they will have the lab technician call you and see what medications you are on and you will give them the Suboxone prescription number and they will note it and tell the employer you were clean. Taking Suboxone doesn't put you in any type of government category in which you will be discriminated against. No need to worry. I hope this helps. Good luck to you.
