Steroids won't really treat the cause of gout but can be very effective to relieve the pain. Your doctor may inject the inflamed joint with the steroids.

I cannot recall what the drug was because to much time has passed but at one time in my life I was given a medication that improved the amount of Uric Acid and the sedimentation in my body this the gout greatly improved but with the steroids it will at least make the pain more tolerable, just came to me ( and I can't say that it would work for you the name of the drug was Zyloprim) one thing to remember is what will work for one will not help another person
