I work in a combined interventional radiology and cardiac cath lab lab. Today a patient arrived on pletal. she had a temporary dialysis catheter and was having a permanent dialysis catheter inserted today. the interventionalist refused to do the procedure, stating pt needed to hold med for 2 days. could he have done the procedure, INR today was 1.1 and is on no other meds
People wont answer if they dont know the answer! This drug can cause hemorrhage as it inhibits platelet aggregation so I would say he did right by refusing to place the catheter without her stopping the medication. After all,he is the one placing the cath and if there is a problem, he gets the blame! What is her creatinine clearance? This drug should be used with special caution with a person with a clearance <25 ml/min.
