My husband is on Suboxone and occasionally takes Xanax. I've noticed when he takes the two together he becomes severely moody!!! Very angry, depressed, foul mouth and hates the world. Can mixing these two meds. cause these problems or could there be something else going on?
Dear cheezysmile, I don't think xanax would cause that reaction, as it is a tranquilizer, it should calm him. Perhaps your guy is craving opiates? Ask him. there is a man named subzero58 on this site, he knows a LOT about suboxone and probably xanax, as well. Perhaps you could find him and ask him this question. Also, click on "start a conversation" , not "ask a question" and people on this site can give your more info, and you can give us more info... just a suggestion. Best wishes to you, sweetlemon
Xanax by itself has been know to cause anger and irritability. has he taken it before or by itself without suboxone and have these problems. how much suboxone is he on and how much xanax does he take. The reason I ask is I take 3mg of suboxone and 3mg of xanax a day. I have been on this combo since october of 2009 and lately i notice i am more irritable and yell inside my head alot. I take it every day though. I never really had this before. I do know the longer you are on xanax that it can cause you to have more depression and anger and I think thats what I am going thru. I do know that xanax can cause rages in people, I have personally seen this. So i would maybe try ativan instead of the xanax,it is still a benzo but not as strong. let me know.
Hey, cheezysmile, I was given Xanax with Suboxone in the first few months and I experienced the same moodiness and anger that you are describing. When I moved and found a new Sub doctor I was put on temazepam(Restoril) which is longer acting. It made all the difference for me. He said Xanax is so short lived that I was going through withdrawals between doses. That said, it does not necessarily mean Xanax is the culprit. Talk to him about his issues and do some research regarding Xanax and urge him to speak to his doctor. I wish you both good luck and he's lucky to have a wife who is concerned for his welfare.
