Does gabapentin cause or increase hyperglycemia?

My mother was on gabapentin300mgs, 3 times a day and it would sometimes make her sugar read high. But ask your Dr. just to be sure.

I think it can cause a high blood sugar. In San Diego, the University of California's Department of Pathology showed that Gabapentin prevents hyperalgesia during the formalin test in diabetic rats, and may be of benefit. So, it has been proven to effect the level of blood sugar when testing in animal models. It will most likely effect the blood sugar in humans as well when administered at moderate doses.
