I am 16 and I take Concerta for my ADHD and I believe it has Caffeine in it but my mom says it don't, who is right?
Active Ingredient: methylphenidate HCl
Inactive Ingredients: butylated hydroxytoluene, carnuba wax,
cellulose acetate, hypromellose, lactose, phosphoric acid,
poloxamer, polyethylene glycol, polyethylene oxides, povidone,
propylene glycol, sodium chloride, stearic acid, succinic acid,
synthetic iron oxides, titanium dioxide, and triacetin,
Looks like it doesn't contain any Caffeine. Hope this helps!
Your mom is correct, it does not contain caffiene. However, consuming too much caffiene while taking Concerta can cause increased irritability and over-stimulation. It feels like it has caffiene in it because it is actually a cerebral stimulant. It causes your brain to release more norepinephrine and dopamine into your reticular activating system ( which is your body's system that control physical and behavioral alertness). In essence, it causes you to become more aware while helping you to focus on what you need to be doing. Hope this helps.
