I'm not sure if it's actually call Breakthrough Anxiety but does anyone have extreme anxiety once or twice a day even when you're on Xanax XR. I'm currently taking 2mg Immediate Release tablets 3x daily. I've also taken 3mg Xanax XR but I would have breakthrough anxiety 2 to 3 times a day for about 2 hours for no reason. I was wondering if I switched to 3mg Xanax Xr and take my regular 2 mg when needed for breakthrough anxiety if that will work. Anyone ever thought of this or tied this? I'm going to talk to my doctor about it next time a see him. I know that the max does of Xanax is 10mg So I'm going to ask him if I can change my xanax to 3mg Xanax XR and then also Take 2mg Immediate Release 3 times a day(a total of 11mg which I dont think insurance will have a problem with).
Your doctor might have to give you some other drug. Something like Zoloft or Cymbalta. Xanax is very addicted, and physicians have been clamped down on. Suggest one of these other drugs. Then your physician will know you do not want the addiction. You just want to feel better.
Are you on any other meds besides Xanax? Just because Xanax really doesnt last that long in your system so it could just be wearing off and thats why you are still feeling those symtoms. You should ask you doctor to put you on something else that you would take daily... such as Zoloft, Lexapro and so on. This couls def help you out.
I have been taking Xanax XR for about six months now and I love it, however I began having similiar problems. At first the attacks were only happening about once a week, then two to three times per week, and the episodes where becoming worse and lasting longer. Can't really have this when you are a single mom chasing aroung a 2 year old. I tried to stick it out hoping they would go away, because I didnt want my psychiatrist to begin to believe that I was just trying to get more pills. However, once they begin to occur everyday I had to do something, so I actually called his voicemail right in the middle of a really bad episode, crying and everything. I know he is a very busy man but I heard back from him in less than 45 min. He did something that surprised me. He didn't tell me to go to the emergency room like so many do or up my Xanax XR or even add an extra benzo. He asked for the number of my pharmacy and said he was going to try me on Neurontin.
Using it for anxiety is an off label use and it you check it out on this web site it is used for about 80 different things. It isn't even a controlled substance, so I admit I was a little suspicious, especially when I saw what a very low dosage he had put me on. Let me tell you though, my psychiatrist hit a home run. Not only were they inexpensive but they work. The panic attacks were completely gone with that very first pill I took and the only one I have had since is when I foolishly thought I could try going off of it myself without my doctor's advice. With all of that said I strongly suggest 100mgs of Neurontin four times a day. Best of luck to anyone with this issue.
