Recently, my pain doctor told me that the fentanyl I take quit working. The pain got unbearable. Could someone tell me if this has happened and what do you do. I appreciate any input. Thank you.
Hello, sorry nobody answered you sooner. Your body builds a tolerance quickly to the steady 24/7 stream of fentanyl. I use small tricks to keep my tolerance down as long as possible. Like NEVER change patch before 72hrs, even if you have some breakthrough pain. Wait as long as you can between changes. A little extra pain now, lot less tolerance build up if you can give your blood serum levels a little ease between changes. If you absolutely cannot wait, you need an increase in dosage.
