My doctor had me stop wellbutrin one day and had me take lexipro the next. Is this safe?

Hi Budgieboo,

Normally, when switching antidepressants, you are supposed to slowly reduce wellbutrin while starting lexapro at the same time so you won't feel that much of withdrawals from wellbutrin. It all depends on how long you were on wellbutrin. I am not a doctor, but it seems weird that your doctor switched it without prescribing both of them at the same time. The thing is that wellbutrin affects both serotonin and norepinephrine, while lexapro affects serotonin. It is safe to take them together (depending on the dose!), but you should definitely talk to your doctor about decreasing slowly the Wellbutrin.

Good luck!
