It is listed as a category C, and that is that the benefit to the mother should outweigh the risk to the baby. It has no record of causing birth defects, but it is possible that the baby could have an effect after its born and is going without it. Talk to your ob dr. He's the one knows about if a med is safe in pregnancy.
Hi, as Kaismama has said, the decision to use of SSRI's during pregnancy need to be weighed up by the benefit to the mother and the risk to the baby. I have a friend who took Seroquel during pregnancy (an anti-psychotic & also a category C) because she simply couldn't have coped otherwise. She didn't suffer from PND, as she had with her first 2 children. Her little girl is now coming up to her first birthday and is doing great. She was monitored in the days after birth and was fine. However, problems have exsisted and reported by women in the past, so you should be aware of this information. I have added the link from this website...
Speak to your midwife and maybe to your doctor some more, voicing your concerns. I hope it all works out OK for you.
