So I have depression, and have my entire life. I feel like my pcp just gave up on trying to help without really doing much. We tried two types of medication that she said 90% of people react to and that since they don't work she's stopping treatment. Is that normal? I've only been with her two months. Two months ago she prescribed me with celexa, and had me come back a month later. No dosage adjustment but switched me to cymbalta which she is taking me off of now after a month of it and said that that's all she can do. Again no dosage adjustment or anything. A year ago I was on Zoloft for a few months before stopping. With a different Doctor who had me in every two weeks and was making dosage adjustments. Should I find another doctor or am I broken?
Hi, Jlong! Two suggestions: get a second opinion or, preferably, a referral to a psychiatrist and consider also seeing a therapist to learn better ways of coping. Finding the right antidepressant can take a lot of patience and trial and error and a doctor shouldn't just "give up"!
Best regards and good luck to you. Wildcat
