I want to thank you all for your comments, I had Back Surgury over 6 yrs ago, and I'm in more pain now then before, I'm sick of taking these Pills and thought I'd try the patches, you all gave me some good feedback, now I'll stew over what to do. thank you all...
I had a different experience than the above poster. I actually found that they worked well, although they didn't last the full week they're supposed to. It's a different kind of pain relief than you find with narcotics. It takes longer to work at first since it's absorbed thru your skin as opposed to being taken orally. And there's no "rush" or "high" that you might experience with narcotics. More like a gradual realization that you don't hurt, or don't hurt as bad, as you did. Unfortunately, I turned out to be allergic to the medication and was unable to continue it after a while. I think one of my favorite things about it was that I woke up with considerably less pain than usual and I didn't have to wait for that first pill to kick in. I hope this helps.
I had tremendous relief from the Butrans patches for my severe migraines. I started at 5 mcg and then it was increased to 15 mcg. I believe 20 mcg is the highest amount that can be prescribed. They always last the full 7 days and I can even wait a bit longer to change them. They are very expensive so I understand your concern. If you don't have health insurance, you should get it. There are limits on how much you have to spend in a year before everything is paid for with my health insurance. You don't say what kind of pain you are treating. Wish you well. Sara
Butrans Patch gave me my life back... I have been on them 7 months now and I have no side effects at all... I have a prescription for 5 oxycodone for breakthrough pain but rarely have to use it.. My insurance didn't want to cover it but pain management Dr. called and they agreed to cover it for 1 year... I am praying they will continue to pay for it when my year is up as it is very expensive .. I hope it helps you with your pain .. I remember having to use a few oxycodone the 1st week of starting the patch , following week was wonderful .. Sorry if I'm rambling I am getting over the Flu... Let me know how they work for you..
