Before I call and yell at her is there anything else a 73 year old woman can take to stop diarrhea. I've tried Lotomil as well and it didn't help. I've been trying to control this for about a year.
What Kmama suggested is good, Imodium. It really helped me. Are you lactose intolerant? I was and everytime I had milk or ice cream, it was off to the bathroom for me. I took lactaid, don't think I spelled it right, before I had any dairy products. It kept me from having diarrhea. It's not a good feeling. I was afraid to go anywhere for fear of having to find a bathroom. And, unless someone goes thru it, they just think, hey, can't ya hold it. And, Nooo. Try the lactaid. I, also, had other problems. I had rectocele surgery and it did not help. I had trouble emptying my bowels. So, it was double anxiety.
It takes about a month to work effectively. I still take it... but am hoping to wean off of it as it gives me the jitters and I'm battling with anxiety already due to IBS and all it's inconveniences.
A couple of co-workers of mine have been taking Probiotics FOS (from bioinnovations.net) and are no longer suffering with IBS! I've started on it... too soon to tell if I will have the same success they have had. They recommended taking 2 a day, in the evening. I hope you find relief soon. Unless someone has this... they have no idea how exhausting it becomes managing your life around food and bathrooms. That's if you even dare leave the house. ):
