This hernia was created by excess ascites and the abdomen muscle split. My partner has been to Cairns Base Hospital 6 times to get this ascites tap done and 6 times he has come home with no result. If there is not a doctor in Australia we will drain the hernia ourselves as we have seen that there is only ascites in this hernia on ultra sound. There is no stomach intestine caught in the muscle. The muscle still has integrity. If there is no service available we will do it ourselves and where do I buy Human Albumin 20% to inject during and after the paracentesis.
You can't buy blood products in Australia, I'm pretty sure. The Red Cross is responsible for the supply of all human blood products and bills through Medicare or charges private patients. The other year after 2 surgeries I had to get three litres of albumin but I can't find the billing statement. The other 15 units of whole blood, blood plasma (mostly albumin and globulin?) and platelets came out to around $560.
The way Ascites generally gets treated here (Adelaide) is with lots of diuretics (I lost 16 litres of fluid in the first two weeks and now have a restricted fluid intake also). A clinic in Melbourne or Sydney may be more co-operative or helpul?
